Hello; I’m Dr. Myers, the resident psychiatrist. This program is still in its early trials, so right now, Rider is the only patient in this hospital with one of those necklaces. He was selected because he’s one of the easier patients to care for, and has never shown any tendencies towards self-harm.

In fact, he’s fairly stable in a quiet, controlled environment like this, so we’re pretty sure that there’s little to no risk to him or the other patients.

That said, you’ve made an excellent point. If things were different, another candidate would’ve been chosen to keep everypony safe. As it is, the necklace’s band is made from the same elastic cord that we use in our crafting sets. While it can support beads or other small trinkets, it’ll break if any real force is applied. Thus, if somepony did try to hurt themselves with a bracelet or necklace made with this material, they wouldn’t be successful.

On a side note, the staff has more control over the incoming messages than Rider. Our id tags have a similar crystal embedded in them, though the enchantment we’re using is capable of intercepting whatever’s coming through and discarding it if needed.
