Basically, it’s a type of substitution cipher. The idea is to write a message using plain text, then replace the letters using a different alphabet. For example, if your “code” alphabet is just the normal one backwards, “a” becomes “z”, and so on. This would make “Hello there” become “svool gsviv”.

The problem is, this doesn’t disguise the words or their spelling, making it easy to decrypt. The more coded text there is, the easier it becomes to break – patterns become apparent very quickly, and short words can be used to give away common letters.
