| 5150 is the code for an involuntary psychiatric hold. In other words, it’s the paperwork that legally gives us permission to have somepony hospitalized regardless of their wishes. Obviously, this isn’t to be done lightly; one of the main requirements is that we’d need to show that there is substantial reason to believe that the patient is an immediate threat to themselves or others, and there is a limit to how long we can keep them. Truth be told, I don’t believe that’s really what she wanted most. That’s the truly insidious thing about suicide; death is very rarely what somepony really wants. There’s always something else going on. For example, they might be dealing with some serious emotional or physical pain. The thing is, once you get past the problems that a suicidal pony is currently facing, they want to keep living. This isn’t because they would have a miraculous change of heart, it’s because they believed that dying was a viable solution to their problem. | ||
