||Today did not go well

|Long story made short: I tried to move some things off the overloaded drive and then defrag using a special defrag program that I hear lots of good things about. It's supposed to be so much better and faster than the default defrag program.
It was a bit faster: 4 and a half hours compared to 7 hours.
It made things FAR WORSE than they were before. I considered defragging normally, but as it took 12 minutes just to get the drive to display, I gave up on that and opted for a more conventional option.
Singing the infamous Windows chant of "FDisk format reinstall do da; do da; FDisk format reinstall ah do da day" I backed up everything I could think of. That took over an hour as file access speeds were horrific.
Things didn't improve from there. Simply put, this reformat is the most convoluted and slipshot reformat I've ever heard of. Problems vary, but center around the fact that my recovery media is a rebranded Norton Ghost that can't figure out where or how to install the image. I've installed it thrice so far with no luck.
I'm going to try using a LiveCD to play with the partitions a bit and see if that works tomorrow. I'm burnt out today; shit like this gets people to take up drinking.
Other news of the day:
• Mom's hip is acting up again.
• Dad has Jury Duty and spent the day on a Jury. He goes back tomorrow.
Here's a happier link for today: Leek Clicky.
I'm using mom's computer to post this entry, and she had that goofy thing bookmarked.
