||Celebrating the Fifth
Posted on July 5th, 2008
|Today's major event was the feast of burgers, fries, chips and root beer we use to celebrate July 4th. Since schedules didn't work out yesterday, we simply did it today even though it's a day late.
Shortly after the meal, we watched Silver Hawk (aka Fei Ying). This turned out to be rather campy as it exaggerated just about every Anime and martial arts based movie cliche. One of the reoccurring enemies had a different hair color in each fight. My guess is that this was a nod to more old-school video games. As there was limited space to store images, many games change the image's color palette to indicate a more powerful version of an enemy. This is rather common for boss enemies, which would be the role that the character with constantly changing hair color was playing in the movie.
Much of the remainder of the day was spent working with Din. I didn't make any progress other than ruling out ideas. I'd really like to speed up the use of modules and perhaps expand their functionality. Currently module commands take 2 to 3 times the amount of time to run than equivalent built in commands.
Around 10:00 PM there was a fireworks display in the distance. Today the blasts were high enough to be seen from our apartment, so I spent about 30 minutes at the balcony doors watching the plumes. Little One however was terrified by the noise and hid under my desk.
Five links today.
On July 4th, one of the blogs I watch posted a tribute to one of the old internet superstars. This guy was a major asshole, but he went about it in a way that was clever and oddly funny. I did a little digging and found an online memorial site for him. He's Vinnie Jordan of alt.tasteless fame. Tasteless as his posts were, the guy's got a strong sense of humor.

Here's a random clip from Whose line is it anyway?.
And lastly, tonight we Rick Roll in Hell! Naturally I've had that song stuck in my head all day again.
