Minishopping
Posted on June 30th, 2008
Mom and I did a small version of the regular shopping to pick up some things we need before the big shopping and some things for July 4th.

We've been having trouble with the chicken purchased from the store, and rather than blame the oven (yet) we're going to try chicken from the healthy food store. So we looked around a bit and bought chicken, cheese and crack Nutella. We noticed something interesting: a wedge of a certain brand's cheese costs $16 at the store but only $6 at the healthy crap store. The chicken is $3 a pound cheaper too. Wow.

The trip trough the grocery store was uneventful until we used the automated self-checkout. It had a number of troubles with our order; this gave one of the staff a small workout as she made laps to and from our lane.

One of the things we bought was a new bird feeder. Yep, another one. This one is built to be exclusive to Goldfinch. A pair of them are visiting our feeders already, but the other birds seem to crowd them. Thus we gave them a place of their own. We got seed for it at the grocery store too. Currently it's the only feeder we have that has thistle seed in it.

We found another way to be thrifty today. Mt. Dew can be bought in 20oz bottles at the checkout for $1.25 and this is what I've been getting. We discovered that a 6-pack of 24oz bottles is just $3.34 -- effectively 7 20oz drinks for less than the price of 3 singles! I can't have 'em all of the time, so they'll be used sparingly, but it saves money!

I spent the rest of the afternoon coding. In the end it didn't work out.

The day disappeared. As a result I don't have any links for today.
