|I ran into some trouble with the GUI version of Necros Cavern. More accurately I ran into some trouble with the toolkit I'm using. After fighting for a long while I found a solution, but I discovered something else while solving that problem. The program uses roughly 8 MB of memory. That's about 12 times more than the text mode version. There's no reason for it to use so much memory. I did some tests, and it seems that the toolkit is behind the memory over usage. I can't stomach wasting that much memory on such a trivial program, so I'm going to start over without the toolkit. The raw API is much more tedious to deal with, but it doesn't carry so much baggage.
And that is how one wastes a day boldly going nowhere.
Pretty much the only link of interest is this gallery of wrecked cars. There's some good examples of why drinking and driving is bad for you, as well as just general proof that other drivers and teenagers are idiots behind the wheel.
Lastly I discovered an amusing couple of Bible verses. Jeremiah 10:3-4 seems to be making a case for the annoying War on Christmas by forbidding Christmas Trees. In reality this was a reference to the pre-Christian rituals and idolatry that the Christmas tree was borrowed from, and the point of this passage is that idols are dead -- they neither walk nor speak for themselves -- so do not worship them. There's probably no problem with using them to improve the feng shui of the room however.
