Redeveloping the system
Posted on April 14th, 2010
I spent the day redoing the way the blog's guts handle posts. Since mom uses a version of this same software on her computer for a private journal, I had to make it simple enough to be used by non-techs. This really didn't go smoothly. While I'm capable of manually tweaking the configuration files, mom would need a set of tools to do so, and they kept not working.

In the end I showed her what I was doing and she asked to remain on the older version, since she liked it better. The changes I've made greatly reduce the amount of resources used by the blog (which will be good for the host) and won't get in the way for me, but it apparently removes a feature she likes (one that takes about 2 minutes to run on her machine). If I'd planned on forking the project originally, I'd probably be done by now.

In other news, the link of the day is another song in Japanese. It's Lamento, and as I've never located the lyrics I have no idea what it means or is about, but I like it.
