||A blast from the past

|The big event of the day was the arrival of the most eagerly awaited item I'd ordered. This was Windows 3.1, new in box. It installed perfectly under DosBox, and was quite a nostalgia trip. Additionally, many of my games will run better under it than under Windows 98 or XP.
During the afternoon I finally got TDOR3 to run, but it has sputtering issues with the sound track. This might mean the cd-rom drive isn't up to par.
I spent the day poking at my little game project, and it's just about done. The only improvement I can think of is to ready it for the GP2X and create some improved graphics for it.
During the day I downloaded a number of games from Sourceforge to try them out. The first two didn't run, the third and fourth ran but not useably, the fifth was impossible to figure out, the sixth ran so slowly as to be a still image, and the last game appears to seriously lack a single player campaign. Mind you, this is about 2 GB of software -- about 4 hours of downloading. I ran across a few dozen other games in the same genres, but they had been abandoned pretty much right after they started. This isn't a good day for Open Source PR.
The other big event of the day was a quick run to the grocery store for dinner, cake and cupcakes. We were going to get cookies instead of cupcakes, but the St. Patrick's day cookies were already sold out. This was a spur of the moment thing as originally mom planned on baking cookies today but decided to go buy them instead.
Lastly, as this is St. Patrick's day, have a quick little Irish jig.
