New games, new problems
Posted on March 15th, 2010
The main event of the day was the arrival of the mail. Most of the games I've ordered arrived. Unfortunately, only about half of them work. This seems to be a graphics driver issue according to what I found on Google. Such is the fate of old programs: written for specific hardware, they don't work well in the open. This would also explain the dirt cheap prices.

During the afternoon I did some searching around to find more information about a few old games and came across a site that provides both downloads and information on DOS games. I picked up a number of demos and tried them out in DosBox. Fun stuff; I'll be looking for full versions of most of them in the future. After all, if the demos run, the full version should also run.

Additionally I managed to get some of my old DOS games to work again. The old computer didn't have the horsepower to run them, but the new computer does.

That summed up the day. The only productive thing I did was experiment with an image loading library, and that was rather brief.

Lastly, here's a thought experiment.
